The Summer Refused To End

Swimming pool fence half undone / Radio loud past midnight one / Bike tires carving dusty turns / Streetlamps buzzing while the pavement burns / Soda cans on the dashboard floor / Cheap fireworks from the corner store / Someone yelling from the yard / Don’t go home it’s way too hard / Windows down on county lanes / Headlights cutting summer rain / Laughing loud at nothing much / Just the thrill of being young as such / That summer wouldn’t end / We said it like a vow / Tomorrow miles away / Only living now / That summer wouldn’t end / We swore it in the heat / Forever in the streets / Wouldn’t end wouldn’t end / That summer in our heads
