The Question

It haunts my life on waking
Visits in my dreams at night
I use the art of distraction
I just can't get it right
Why am I here? What should I be doing?
What's the purpose of it all?
Until I find the answer
I can't fulfil my call Do I chase after money
Or is it fame that I crave?
Do I paint, invent, tell stories?
Find a mentor, ride a wave?
Do I need to score points
On this journey we call life?
To secure a place in heaven
Working for the afterlife? Every living thing in this world
Every living thing — and me
Every bird that takes the sky
Every creature in the sea Every seedling, flower and tree
Meets a struggle of some kind
Something standing in its way
Something it must leave behind There are obstacles to living
There are battles, great and small
There are no exceptions to it
It is written into all But take heart —
There is intelligence behind it We have given it a name Evolution So forget the second guessing
Put your worries down awhile
Just be still and keep on watching
Let your life unfold and smile
